Join at the Birdland Theater for the George Kontrafouris Trio! He will be releasing his new record, “The Passing”!

For the first time, and for one night only, George Kontrafouris will be presenting his new record release “The Passing”, live at the legendary Birdland in New York, with emerging young musicians Kimon Karoutzos (bass) and Jason Wastor (drums). George Kontrafouris has been a leading figure on the European jazz scene as jazz pianist, organist and educator and has collaborated with many famous musicians such as: Ralph Peterson Jr., Lou Donaldson, Bob Brozman, David Liebman, Benny Golson, Sheila Jordan, Houston Pearson… He will be playing with two outstanding young musicians, based in New York, Kimon Karoutzos on bass and Jason Wastor on drums. Kimon is a student of the legendary Ron Carter and Jason is a student of the Jazz master Kenny Washington.

George Kontrafouris has always been an active, open-minded musician, collaborating with a variety of different artists from around the world. His artistic output has included jazz music, blues, Greek music, poetry, as well as experimentation. In this brand new album he is exploring the piano as a means of retrospection of his musical memories, in the context of a jazz piano trio. The music of the album includes pieces composed by Greek musicians who played an important role in Kontrafouris’ musical development, such as his teacher, Markos Alexiou, who was a pioneering jazz pianist in Greece, as well as his own compositions. For the first time George Kontrafouris presents this record release concert for one night only on February 2nd in the Jazz corner of the world.
