Music Born from Times of Strife, at All Saints Church (Site)

$15 – $30Come share the excitement as Symphony of the City of New York performs an innovative concert that will intersperse the music wtih Composer Illuminations – short videos bringing the composers to life.In addition to the innovative video showings, the Symphony will once again perform a unique concert that brings its audience a program of works not being performed by any other New York orchesrtra…. and it once again fulfills its dual mission of prominently featuring works by women composers as well as performing repertoire from around the world.
This concert of music gestated in times of strife will feature:
The U.S. Premiere Performance of Canadian composer Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté's Concertino for String Orchestra (composed in Vienna in 1947);
Galina Ustvolskaya's Piano Concerto (St. Petersburg, 1946)
Gwhyneth Chen, piano soloist;
Kinan Azmeh's Suite for Improvisor and String Orchestra (Syria, 2007)
Kinan Azmeh, clarinet soloist; and
The Prelude to Bachianas Brasilerias by Heitor Villa-Lobos (Brazil, 1942).
