Murray Hidary: Mind Travel, at National Sawdust (Site)

Sunday June 11, 2017, 7:00 pm

About the Show

Music is at once primal yet aspirational. It satisfies our deepest needs while raising us to our highest sense of self. That is what MindTravel is all about. In his live performances, Murray transports audiences on a journey that is at once expansive and transformative. His improvisational piano meditations, inspired by mystical traditions and theoretical physics, will leave you in a state of harmony and clarity, with the rhythm to carry it forward into your life. MindTravel. Come back. Different.

What does the energy of the universe sound like? I’ve spent many years on an exploration of that question. That journey has occurred for me on a very personal level through a practice I began calling MindTravel. MindTravel evolved over many years, growing out of my study of theoretical physics and eastern wisdom traditions, to become my way of exploring important ideas and states of consciousness using music as the medium. The music is a real-time composition, a form of improvisation, a sort of spontaneous subconscious storytelling. What I hear most often from listeners is that it sounds like the ‘soundtrack to their own life.’ I asked myself why that would be? What I realized is that while I am expressing my own story, albeit subconsciously and abstractly, at some level we all have the same human story – just with different details. MindTravel reminds me of who I am at the deepest level. It is my hope, my aspiration, that it reminds you of yours.
