SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 5

This performance opens with the symphonic poem Rebbieħa by Maltese composer Joseph Vella. This is followed by Maltese-American composer Alexey Shor’s Travel Notebook Suite for Piano and Orchestra with Ingolf Wunder as the piano soloist and closes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. The MPO’s tour is organized by the European Foundation for Support of Culture and helps mark the orchestra’s 50th Anniversary as well as Malta’s capital city, Valletta, becoming a 2018 European Capital of Culture.
