The Piano Music of Bartok at Bloomingdale School of Music (Site)
Friday May 30, 2025, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeJudith Olson and her students perform solos and duets by 20th century Hungarian composer Bela Bartok, whose 400-plus works for piano include two landmark collections:
“For Children,” based on Hungarian and Slovakian tunes, and “Mikrokosmos” (Little World),
miniatures in a world of compositional styles and techniques. The program includes selections from these sets, and from the popular Romanian Dances and Sonatina.
The centerpiece of the concert is “Musiques nocturnes,” from Out of Doors, an impressionistic, magical evocation of a Hungarian landscape at night–the chirping and
twittering of insects, the rustle of twigs, and the sudden screech of a frightened bird.
Just for fun, we will include Bruce Adolph’s arrangement of “A Hard Day’s Night” (Beatles) in the style of Bartok
