Drummer Joe Farnsworth leads an exceptional trio featuring two of his fellow modern masters: pianist Brad Mehldau and bassist Larry Grenadier. The New York Times says, “Joe Farnsworth is a briskly swinging drummer, especially persuasive with the dialect of hard bop.” Broadway World adds that he “is known for his blazing speed, precision, and melodic playing.” Earlier this year, Farnworth released a highly regarded new album, In What Direction Are You Headed? furthering his growing reputation as an inspired bandleader. His abilities as a leader are clear reflections of some of the lessons that he learned during his time in some of the most notable bands of the last 30 years. Groups led by George Coleman, Benny Golson, Pharaoh Sanders, Cedar Walton, Harold Mabern, and McCoy Tyner, among others. This trio features Mehldau, who called him “arguably the greatest working jazz pianist” by The New Yorker, and his frequent collaborator Grenadier who they also said is “a leading light” of his generation.
