Innovative pianist and improviser Dan Tepfer brings an updated live performance of his acclaimed album Natural Machines to our newly renovated Buttenwieser Hall. In Natural Machines, Tepfer explores – in music – the intersection between natural and mechanical processes, improvising at the piano and interacting both musically and visually in real time with computer-written programs. Tepfer is deeply rooted in jazz improvisation, and has worked with artists from Lee Konitz to Pharoah Sanders to Paul Motian.
