About the Artists
Chiu-Chen Liu
Violist Chiu-Chen Liu enjoys a diverse career in orchestra, chamber music and pedagogy. Recent performances include engagements with Cremona International Music Academy, Alion Baltic International Music Festival, Festival Suoni D’abruzzo in Italy, BAMcafé Live, American Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, American Chamber Music Ensemble, New York Classical Quartet, Attacca Quartet and Lecture-Performance Series at Columbia University. Chiu-Chen has served as principal viola with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, the Sarasota Opera, Di Capo Opera, Fairfield County Chorale Orchestra. Her chamber music performances have been broadcast on NPR and WQXR radio.
Currently residing in New York City, Chiu-Chen relocated from her native Taiwan at age seventeen to study at the Manhattan School of Music. She later earned her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music and Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College The New School for Music, receiving full scholarship as a student of Hsin-Yun Huang, Mark Steinberg and Laurie Smukler. A dedicated teacher, Chiu-Chen was appointed the String Department Chairperson from 2013 to 2016 at the Third Street Music School where she is currently serving as a full-time violin, viola, and chamber music faculty.
Yun Hao
Born in Beijing, China, Yun Hao is an accomplished piano soloist and chamber musician who has performed in China, the United States, Finland, and Croatia. She is highly praised by famous pedagogue Dr. Arkady Aronov for her truthful pianistic expressions and deep understanding of music as a pianist who plays with great sensitivity, strong conviction, and sincerity. Yun Hao is currently based in New York City, recently performed in Manhattan School of Music Lives of Piano concert series; and in Sunday Evenings at Klavierhaus concert series; and will be joining Princeton Symphony Orchestra for their performance in January performing Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Her collaboration with American guitarist Mr. David Starobin playing William Bland’s 4th sonata for guitar and piano was recorded and published through Bridge Records, New Music With Guitar Vol.12 in 2019.
After graduating from Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano Performance, she continued pursuing her passion in music education at Teachers College, Columbia University. With interests in exploring better ways teachers can facilitate student’s learning, Yun Hao seeks to delve deeper into this synergistic collaboration with her students and work together with her fellow teachers building a meaningful learning experiences, and creating a multicultural environment supporting emerging learners.
About the Series
Third Street’s Live Sounds faculty concert series is free and open to the public on select Fridays at 7:00 p.m. in the Anna-Maria Kellen Concert Hall at Third Street Music School (235 East 11th Street).
The series presents a wide range of solo and collaborative performances highlighting many genres, instrumentation, and composers and spotlights the world-class professional teaching artists at Third Street.
