Pianist Benjamin Grosvenor returns to 92NY following a triumphant 2017 debut on our stage, bringing a program that further showcases his poetry, power, and astonishing talent. He opens with Busoni’s spectacular transcription of Bach’s Chaconne before Schumann’s grand, sweepingly romantic C-Major Fantasie. Grosvenor dazzled with his performance of Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit in his 2017 debut. This program’s second half begins with more Ravel with his Baroque homage in modern colors, Le tombeau de Couperin, and closes with Prokofiev’s B-Major Sonata, arguably the greatest description of war in the piano literature, and another spectacular showpiece revealing the depths of Grosvenor’s artistry.
Concert available for viewing online for 72 hours from time of broadcast.
