“Joy Under the Moon” Concert at OPERA America’s National Opera Center (Site)

$39.02This concert features traditional and modern Chinese music on the ruan 阮 (Chinese guitar) and liuqin 柳琴 (Chinese mandolin). The program comprises of classics such as Camel Bells Along the Silk Road, Moonlight, and Sword Dance written by established composers, including Xing Liu, Yong Ning and Changjun Xu, as well as the world premiere of Farewell Kiss for the Night from rising composer and pianist Haibei Wang.
Door opens at 6:30 pm ET (Light refreshments will be provided). Concert starts at 7:30 pm ET.

HOST & PERFORMER
Yueqin ‘Eugenie’ Chen 陈玥駸 is a classically trained Ruan and Liuqin artist based in New York. Chen studied Ruan and Liuqin performance with Professor Wu Qiang at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2007, her ensemble Jin Qi (金豈组合) took first place in the National Classical Chinese Music Competition. She continued to perform and record after moving to New York and has since performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the 2015 Met Gala with Rihanna.
GUEST ARTIST
Haibei Wang 汪海蓓 is a cross-genre artist and composer who writes music for multimedia, theatre, and the concert stage. Her compositions incorporate elements of classical orchestral music, electronic music, jazz music, and Eastern folk influences. Wang’s scores have also premiered at many film festivals, including the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, TIFF, AFMA, SFFILM and BAFTA. In 2020, she worked for Academy Nominated director Chen Kaige (陈凯歌) to score his short film Baobeier, which was screened in the Chinese TV show Everybody Stand By S2. She holds a Master’s degree in composition with a concentration in Screen Scoring from New York University.
