This performance features jazz composer, arranger, bandleader, and pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi in her 88th year, a milestone (“beiju” in Japan) that calls for a celebration. Named NEA Jazz Master in 2007, Akiyoshi is the first woman to win DownBeat Magazine’s Best Arranger and Composer award and has received 14 Grammy nominations.
