FreeWorks for Piano and Violin
Thursday, December 7, 2017 7:30pm
On Wednesday, December 7, 2017, at 7:30 pm, at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church, Friends of Mozart presents Variations on a Theme, works for piano and violin by Mozart, Hummel, and Beethoven, gifted violinists and keyboard virtuosos, as well as brilliant improvisers. Solo improvisation was the basis of the variation form in the instrumental and orchestral music of eighteenth-century composers. In their work, sets of variations figured as independent compositions and as movements within large-scale compositions, evident in this program’s sonatas by Mozart and Beethoven, including the “Kreutzer.”
