The Past is Female, too. (A Recital) in Greenpoint; Markus Kaitila, Piano (Site)

Saturday May 5, 2018, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$15

From the organizer:

This recital is intended to celebrate and champion women, people of color, and queer folks in the music/art space now and not that long ago.

I love Mozart as much as the next human person. (Seriously, Mozart > everything else) but maybe you didn’t know that Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna Mozart AKA “Nannerl”, was also an extremely accomplished musician and composer in her own right. Unfortunately, we’ll never HOW fantastic she was because none of her compositions survived (and she was forced to give up her pursuits once she was old enough to get married)… What a forking tragedy right?

Unfortunately, we can’t change the past. However, we can celebrate the women, people of color, and queer folks in the music and art space RIGHT NOW (and not too too long ago).

So, join me and some of my favorite humans** of all time as we perform some old favorites (hey, Libby Larsen!) and some new discoveries (omg, Florence Price). There will be wine (and other more seltzery options) and bites! Really hope to see you there!!

100% of the profits will go to Planned Parenthood cause shit is getting so real out there.
Suggested donation is $15, but feel free to give what you can.

Featured Musicans:

Chelsea Shephard, Soprano
Ryan Bradford, Baritone
Alexa Smith, Soprano
Sara Ptak, Soprano

Markus Kaitila, piano
