Emanuel Ax solos in Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto, which is sure to captivate you with its elegance, luscious slow movement, and spirited finale. Stéphane Denève brings his special touch for French repertoire to the Philharmonic’s performance of works by fellow-Frenchmen: Roussel’s muscular symphony and Ravel’s shattering homage-with-a-twist to “The Waltz King,” Johann Strauss II.
