Ignat Solzhenitsyn Solo Recital at 92Y (Site)

Saturday March 2, 2019, 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

$53.00

“An uncommonly thoughtful, communicative musician.” — The New York Times

“An interpreter of probing intellect as well as an avid risk-taker.” — The Washington Post

Sunlight and moonlight both make appearances in this creative program by Ignat Solzhenitsyn, whom the Boston Globe calls a “musician’s musician and a pianist’s pianist.” Alexander Scriabin’s tenth sonata begins severely, but develops into ecstatic trills and tremolos representing the fluttering of butterflies, which the composer said were “kisses of the sun.” After the sun, there is respite to be found in the moon-bathed ruins of the second movement of Debussy’s second book of Images, bookended by exotic Javanese gamelan music in Cloches à travers les feuilles and dazzling passagework in Poissons D’Or. The program closes with the effervescence of Mozart’s Sonata in F Major.
