Welcome to The Silent Clowns Film Series, NYC’s longest-running regularly-scheduled showcase for classic silent film comedy (since 1997)! We present monthly, year-round showings of the silent movies of Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, Lloyd, and many others, all with live musical accompaniment by renowned silent film accompanist Ben Model. Every program features a spoken introduction and Q&A by film historians Ben Model and Steve Massa, and our shows are curated by film historian Bruce Lawton. Come early and read our excellent film notes and enjoy silent-era coming attraction slides. Our programs, presented on a regular basis on weekend afternoons, are geared to classic film fans as well as to families.

After coming from the stage and beginning his film career in comedy, Douglas Fairbanks became the ultimate 1920s screen swashbuckler in enormous hits like THE MARK OF ZORRO (20) and THE BLACK PIRATE (26). For his final silent epic, THE IRON MASK, Fairbanks reprised his favorite role of DArtagnan in a sequel to his THE THREE MUSKETEERS (21), creating perhaps the most sumptuous and elaborate of his movie adventures. Koko the Clown is back in his animated adventure KOKOS HYPNOTISM. Guest piano accompanist: Bernie Anderson
