Film: Alicia’s Hands, a Documentary about Alicia de Larrocha, at Manhattan School of Music

Alicia’s Hands is the human and artistic portrait or Alicia de Larrocha, of a life devoted to study and musical improvement. Her hard work has been recognized by plenty of awards but this never disturbed her objective: to perform with the highest rigor and fidelity to the score. Different characters or international renown such as Joaquin Achúcarro, André Previn, Maria Joao Pires or Martha Argerich, will speak about her technique, about her passion and the reasons why she was considered one of the best piano players of the 20th Century. This is the story of an artist with small hands, a story of passion for the music and a journey about the power of desire to discover the woman beyond the pianist.

Since 1999, Mannes has presented a yearlong music festival every year. Each festival includes more than 20 events performed by the school’s gifted young student artists, distinguished faculty members, and renowned guests, at prestigious New York City concert venues and cultural institutions. The festivals are an outstanding component of the total Mannes program.
