Evan Shinners

American musician Evan Shinners in an inspiration to young musicians and artists everywhere with his self-made career and uncompromising standards. Known for his unceasing devotion to the music of J.S. Bach, he has toured the world professionally delighting audiences with his stories, humor, original music, and Bach-playing.

A graduate of the Juilliard School (2010), and now a mentor at the institution, Mr. Shinners brings Bach alive historically, recording on clavichord and piano, and pushes Bach into the future, with eccentric electric renditions. He appears in private salons with acoustic instruments or in warehouse parties in Brooklyn.

His ‘Bach Show’ at Webster Hall in New York was recently featured on NBC TV, and National Public Radio. In 2012 he was invited to the White House, mixing Bach with Holiday songs for 19,000 people including the First Family at the national Christmas tree lighting.

His first recording (‘@bach’) caught the ears of many: “I know this is a lot of weight to put on a young man’s shoulders, but Evan reminds me of a young Glenn Gould” (Bill McGlaughlin). “It’s excitingly insane! But by god there is nothing quite like it” (David Dubal). “A bona fide Bach-star” (Time Out).

His second album, (“evan plays seven”), is also a full length YouTube film, and was the most prominent Bach-related film on Twitter in 2012, earning him the title: Mr. Bachtober.

His avant-garde, Bach-ian films were featured in an art gallery during Bushwick open studios in 2016 after the creation of his alter-ego, WTF BACH. In the same month he released two diverse albums including his arrangement of the complete cello suites (Jello Sweets, NEW CULL records, 2016)

Currently he is devoted toward performing the complete solo keyboard works of Bach from memory during the next four seasons and in 2018 will release the French Suites, English Suites, Inventions and Sinfonias, Trio Sonatas (arranged for piano), and original music under Prochaine Reve.
