Escher Quartet with Roman Rabinovich, at Rockefeller University (Site)

Wednesday May 6, 2020, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The Escher Quartet, featuring Adam Barnett-Hart (violin), Danbi Um (violin), Pierre Lapointe (viola), and Brook Speltz (cello), has received acclaim for its profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty. Former BBC New Generation Artists, the Quartet has performed in London at the BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall and is a regular guest ensemble at Wigmore Hall. In its home town of New York, the ensemble serves as Season Artists of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The Quartet has made a distinctive impression internationally with recent debuts in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Geneva, Tel Aviv, and Paris. They continue to thrive in the United States as well, performing at the Aspen Music Festival, Bowdoin Music Festival, and the Ravinia and Caramoor festivals. For their Zemlinsky String Quartet recordings (2013-2014), the ensemble earned the “Classical CD of the Year” from The Guardian and a nomination for a BBC Music Magazine Award. Currently the String Quartet in Residence at Southern Methodist University, the Quartet fervently supports the education of young musicians. The Escher Quartet takes its name from the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher, inspired by Escher’s method of interplay between individual components working together to form a whole.

Roman Rabinovich, who has been praised by The New York Times for his “uncommon sensitivity and feeling,” is the winner of the 12th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. He has performed throughout Europe and the United States in such prestigious venues as Gewandhaus (Leipzig), Wigmore Hall (London), the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Cité de la Musique (Paris), Lincoln Center (New York), and the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage (Washington DC). In addition to his talents as a performer, Rabinovich is also a composer and visual artist. In summer of 2016, he embarked upon the Haydn Project, encompassing artwork inspired by Haydn, as well as recitals of Haydn’s complete keyboard sonatas at the Bath Festival in the UK and partial cycles at the Lammermuir Festival in Scotland and ChamberFest Cleveland.
