Agustin Muriago Solo Recital, “El Piano Español,” at Yamaha Artist Services (Site)

The Consulate General of Argentina in New York presents a piano recital by Agustin Muriago, entitled, “El piano español.”

Argentine pianist Agustin Muriago performs a program of Spanish music. In addition to works by Albéniz, Granados, Falla, Mompou, and Halffter, Muriago will perform works inspired in Spanish music by Debussy, Chabrier, Lecuona, and Moszkowski.

About the artist:

Equally passionate as a performer, pedagogue, and scholar, Agustin Muriago is continuously developing these three facets of his career in music. In his native Argentina he earned degrees in piano performance, piano pedagogy, and composition. As a prizewinner of the 2008 “Teachers del Norte-Pianists del Sur” auditions under the direction of Mirian Conti, he continued his studies in the United States, earning degrees in piano performance from The Hartt School (DMA), New York University (MM), and Rowan University (BM summa cum laude).

His major teachers include José Ramón Méndez, Luiz de Moura Castro, David Westfall, Veda Zuponcic, Aldo Antognazzi, and Marcela Fiorillo, having also received advice from Lilya Zilberstein, Frederic Chiu, Julian Martin, Solomon Mikowsky, Douglas Humpherys, and Seymour Bernstein.

Dr. Muriago has performed throughout the United States, Spain, and Argentina in venues such as Steinway Hall in New York City and the “Teatro Opera” in Buenos Aires. His repertoire ranges from standard piano works to contemporary music premieres, with an emphasis on Spanish and Argentinean piano music.

In addition to traditional instruction, Dr. Muriago is a certified Suzuki method teacher. He has offered master classes at the “Instituto Superior de Música José Hernandez” and the “Manuel de Falla” conservatory of music, and has adjudicated at the New York State School Music Association’s piano festival and the Hartford Music Teachers Alliance’s Virtuoso and Rising pianists competitions. He is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, College Music Society, and has recently been invited to join the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda.

Agustin Muriago has served on the faculties at New York University, The Hartt School community division, and is currently Instructor of Piano at Kansas State University, where he teaches piano pedagogy, class piano, and applied lessons.
